Remembering Fiona and Russ, A Love Story
We, in the wedding community are blessed to share happy times with couples who are beginning their marriage journey. All couples have a special story and each hold a special place in our hearts.
On 11-11-11 at 11:11AM Russ and Fiona were married on Hawksnest Beach. It was a crazymorning as they arrived a little late, so I pronounced them "married" exactly at 11:11 AM and then performed the rest of the ceremony.
Fiona, an US Army Major was stationed in Afghanistan and flew to the Virgin Islands to meet Russ who was arriving from New Mexico. Their happiness was contagious and we kept in touch in the later months as Fiona would be coming home to be with her love in June 2012.
Tragically both were killed in a jet ski accident a few weeks after she returned from active duty. No words can describe this loss for their friends and family. The morning that I learned of their passing, I was on Hawksnest beach performing a vow renewal, of course they were heavy on my mind.
As I looked out over the water, I would feel their presence soaring together like eagles, it reminded me, love never dies, it just changes form.
Fiona and Russ, God bless you and thank you for all that you gave to your country, your families and this world. Fly on together, forever.
