Q & A with Mary
What is your favorite part of a wedding?
“As a destination wedding planner, I love to observe the guests when they first arrive and how they are feeling at the end of the event. Because a destination wedding is not just a one-day event, guests have the opportunity to experience a new location and have a wonderful vacation with family and friends, while attending their loved one's wedding. At the end of the wedding, it's lovely to see how much fun they are having, and I am so touched to see them profusely thanking the couple for inviting them.”
What inspires you to create stunning designs for your clients?
“I love to take someone's vision and style and create something that works in the tropics while being reflective of them. I enjoy creating timeless designs by combining some of the recent trends with some classic look. I call it tropical chic vs. BOHO wedding.”
Are there are any challenges to having a wedding in St. John?
“Because we NEVER work inside and also do many wedding ceremonies within the VI National Park, we must adhere to the park rules. My role is to take my client’s dream and create it here on our small tropical island, island style.”
Three words that describe your work style?
“Attentive, flawless and relaxed.”

“I have three grown daughters—two are architectural designers and one is an investigator. I also have a 12lb ‘killer’ named Cookie. She is my guardian and companion. I named her after my late sister Colleen (her nickname was Cookie). When I went to the Animal Care Center of St. John, Cookie was only a few months old. Her coat reminded me of an Irish setter. So, of course, the first Irish name that came to me was Colleen, and Cookie became my sweet girl!"
